Compare how witchcraft has been viewed historically in the United States and in Europe. What purpose have these beliefs served?  Witchcraft has been viewed as evil doing and messing with evil and or the devil. People believed that people that practiced witchcraft had special powers, could control people with their minds, and could put spells on people. This stereotype has a long history and seen in many cultures as the evils of the world. We see witchcraft in folk tales, movies, and tv series. One tv series in particular is charmed, which is a story about 3 witches. Not everyone see\’s witchcraft in the same way as everyone has their own perspective on what witchcraft is and what it means. Some people seek comfort in witchcraft and see it as part of their religion and some view it as evil and should never be practiced.   Compare and contrast the typical Western European version of witchcraft with one of the following non-Western versions of witchcraft by reviewing these resource links on witchcraft. The modern Eastern word, witchcraft, has three principal connotations. They are the practice of magic worldwide, beliefs associated with the western witch-hunt of the 14th and 18th century, and varieties of the modern movement which is called wicca. ( Lewis, m, Loan). The idea of magic in a western society is closely connected to the idea of witchcraft. The idea of modern day witchcraft in todays time is more acceptable in todays times than it was years ago.  The Salem witch trials was from 1692 to 1693, Practicing witches are not burned at the stake anymore, nor are they prosecuted for practicing. People that choose to practice witchcraft and allowed to openly practice exercise their religion more freely. In some cultures some practice white witch craft and see it is a good witchcraft and a good witch.
