In a letter dated January 29, 2016, Dr. Jullette Saussy, submitted a letter to Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C., detailing her assessment of the current EMS delivery system.  Furthermore, Dr. Saussy, provided her resignation, effective February 13, 2016.  Please read the attached letter for all of the details.

Many of you may have already heard about this letter and subsequent discussions throughout EMS – this has spread very quickly throughout even international EMS circles.  It is simple to have a visceral response to this as an EMS provider.

            There are various issues facing the DC Fire and EMS Department that are making it difficult for the department to provide effective and efficient services to people. The first issue highlighted in the letter is the culture of the DC and EMS department. According to the letter, the culture is too toxic to provide pre-hospital patient care.
