2. For discussion XI you will demonstrate your ability to identify the technological advancements of the Renaissance as discussed in Ch. 17 of your textbook. Please identify a work of art (not listed in your textbook) that exemplifies a technological advancement of the period. Make sure to include at least 1 embedded image in your post.
For example, the 1490 work shown below, Lamentation over the dead Christ, by Andrea Mantegna exemplifies the use of foreshortening, a technique developed during the Renaissance. In the painting, Christ’s feet appear to be smaller in proportion to the rest of his body creating an optical illusion and forcing the perspective of standing at the foot of his bed. The implied lines created by Christ’s arms lead the viewer’s eyes up to the focal point of the piece, his face. By drawing up his body the viewer can experience the pain and suffering, implied in the title of the work. The use of this technique gives the painting a more realistic look and helps to create three dimensionalities an innovation of the Renaissance period.
