Urethritis is the inflammation and irritation of the urethra. The primary cause of urethritis is a bacterium known as Escherichia coli that is normally present in stool. Other bacteria strains that can cause urethritis include Chlamydia trachomatis (sexually transmitted) which causes chlamydia and gonococcus, which causes gonorrhea (Jahan, Shamsuzzaman & Akter, 2014).
